You can now access the Lisbon Metropolitan Area Geological Map, on a 1:100 000 scale. The main objective of this map was to carry out a synthesis of the geology of the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon at this scale.

Access and download the Geological Map of the Municipality of Lisbon, on a scale of 1:10 000, which was published by the Instituto Geológico e Mineiro in 1985, to support the study of seismic risk microzoning in the municipality of Lisbon.

Simplified Geological Map and Geological Heritage of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park, scale 1:50 000
Consult and download the simplified geological map of the PNSAC, published in 2015 with the aim of contributing to the knowledge and exploration of the Natural Park. The Geological Map of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, scale of 1:400 000, is now available for download in the Open Data section. This map was edited in 2014 by LNEG, under a cooperation protocol involving the Instituto de Tropical Scientific Research, the General Directorate of Geology and Mines of Guinea-Bissau and Portuguese Cooperation.
Identification of areas not affected by land-use restriction, for the location of renewable power plants
LNEG developed work with a view to the future identification of “Go-To Areas” for the location of renewable energy production units in mainland Portugal. The work took place within the scope of an informal Working Group, coordinated by LNEG and involving the following entities: APA, DGEG, DGT, ICNF and DGPC.
Map Viewer Earth Observation
Explore in the new Earth Observation Viewer the multitemporal images captured by two optical satellites, Sentinel 2 (Copernicus) and Landsat (NASA). Use different algorithms to highlight specific characteristics, depending on the selected spectral range, from the point of view of geology, bathymetry, vegetation, agriculture, among others.
Map Viewer 3D
In the new 3D Viewer you can explore the Earth from different angles, zooming in to the appropriate scale for each location and incorporating the relief of the Earth's surface in the analysis. You can also superimpose some selected maps in the areas of Energy and Geology on the terrain.
Geological Map of the Northeast Sector of Bragança
The Geological Map of the Northeast Sector of Bragança, produced as part of the Doctoral thesis of Doctor Carlos Meireles in 2012, is now available for download, and which contains an adaptation of the surveys of the 1st edition of the Espinhosela and Deilão geological maps and new surveys.
International Geological Cartography
A new section called "International Geological Cartography" was created in the Open Data, which allows the download of varied international geological cartography, in which the Portuguese Geological Service was involved.
OffshorePlan - Planning the Instalation of Offshore Renewable Energy Systems in Portugal
Several maps of the Wind and Wave Atlas, developed within the scope of the OffShorePlan Project, were added for download, with the aim of promoting the implementation of offshore renewable energy systems on the Portuguese coast.
Portuguese Atlas of Sustainable Green H2
The Portuguese Atlas of Sustainable Green H2 is now available in the Map Viewer, a georeferenced information-based tool that complies with criteria defined in the construction of scenarios to assess the suitability of the location of green hydrogen production projects in the Portuguese mainland.
EXPLORA Project Maps
The EXPLORA project - Definition of new vectors of geological, geophysical and geochemical knowledge for the northern region of Neves-Corvo, aims to characterize the geological, geochemical and geophysical models of this important mining center in the Iberian Pyrite Belt, down to depths of about 1500 m.
GEO_FPI Project Maps
The maps of the GEO_FPI project – Transfrontier Observatory for the Geo-economic Enhancement of the Iberian Pyrite Belt project are now available for download. This project aimed to update all the geological information available on the referred region, having created a harmonized cartography of both sides of the Portuguese-Spanish border, unifying the available information.
Hydrogeological Map of Portugal, scale 1:200 000 (Vector Map)
In supplement to the Hydrogeological Map of Portugal, scale 1:200 000 in raster format, the vector version of Sheet 1 and Sheet 6 is now available in the Map Viewer. These cartographic documents provide a synthesis of hydrogeological knowledge at the regional level.

This map depicts the main metallic mineralizations of the region where the Portuguese South Zone is located, between Lisbon and Seville, being referenced in its magnitude, substance and morphology, on a harmonized geological base, with unified criteria between Portugal and Spain.

Cross-border geological map of 1:200 000, in which the geological legend on both sides of the border was harmonized, with unified criteria between Spain and Portugal. Product resulting from the GEO-FPI project carried out in 2020 by IGME and LNEG.
