The Geological Map of the Surroundings of Lisbon, scale 1:50 000, is now available in the Historical Geological Cartography section. Created by Paul Choffat, this map was published posthumously by the Geological Services of Portugal between 1935 and 1950. Divided into four sheets, it provides a detailed survey of the geological structure of the Lisbon area, highlighting the main formations of the region. This work has been fundamental for the study of local geology.

An interactive dashboard with statistical data on boreholes, accessible through the LNEG Borehole core collection, is now available on the Sondabase page. In addition to displaying a map with the location of the boreholes, the dashboard shows the total number and total length in meters of archived boreholes, together with graphs that illustrate these statistics broken down by the various LNEG archives.

Discover the new app dedicated to searching for and viewing information about Geosites – locations of significant geological interest in Portugal, integrated into the National Inventory of Geological Heritage. Specifically developed for mobile devices, the app allows users to explore national Geosites and locate points of interest on the map for future visits.

Check out the Geological Map of Spain and Portugal at a 1:1,000,000 scale in the Viewer. This map, published by the IGME in 2015, has been modified according to INSPIRE specifications for the Geology theme, with the information layers provided as Geological Units, classified according to the lithologies and ages of the INSPIRE vocabularies.

We invite you to consult the new National Inventory of Geological Heritage, available in the Databases section. This inventory results from the integration of the geosite databases from LNEG and the University of Minho, and gathers information about the geological heritage present in the national territory. Its content is intended for scientific, technical, and educational purposes, supporting nature conservation policies and land-use planning.

The first Geological Map of the city of Lisbon, published in 1940 by the Geological Services of Portugal, is now available in the Section of Historical Geological Cartography. The work, of a posthumous nature, was created based on the field notes and detailed work of P. Choffat and J. C. Berkeley-Cotter.
