Geological Cartography of the Montesinho Natural Park
The Montesinho Natural Park (PNM) is geologically located in the Central Iberian and Galician Zones – Trás-os-
Montes and presents one of the most complex geological settings in the Iberian Peninsula. The geographical situation of the PNM area, between the geomorphological domains of the Galaico-Leonese Mountains and the Transmontano Plateau, gives it particularities of both types of landscape. The geomorphology of the PNM is strongly controlled by tectonic structures and lithologies. The landscape varies depending on the lithological substrate and alpine tectonic control, which was decisive in the scaling of the relief, especially in the eastern sector.
