Images of geological maps at a scale of 1:50 000, with new georeferencing
New images of the geological maps are available for download. The work carried out was aimed at improving the georeferencing of the maps previously made available, so it is recommended that they be replaced with these. These new images can also be consulted in the Map Viewer.

The wind potential map “NEPs” - annual number of hours equivalent to the nominal power (hour/year), for mainland Portugal, is available for download in GeoTIFF format in the Open Data section for the height of 100m (500x500m pixel).

The Simplified Geological Map of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, on a scale of 1:75 000, was produced in 1999 by the Geological and Mining Institute and the Institute for Nature Conservation.
Magnetic Anomaly of Southern Portugal
The magnetic anomaly map of southern Portugal is the result of integrating multiple aeromagnetic surveys conducted in the 1990s, with flight line spacings ranging from 200 m to 500 m. IGRF was removed from the measured magnetic field. The anomaly was interpolated onto a 500 m grid.
Gravity Anomaly of the Portuguese Sector of the Iberian Pyrite Belt
The gravity anomaly map of the Portuguese Sector of the Iberian Pyrite Belt is the result of integrating multiple terrestrial and aerial surveys conducted over several decades. These surveys were levelled and interpolated onto a 500 m grid. The Bouguer anomaly was calculated considering a crustal density of 2.6 g/cm3.
Geology of the Marble Exploitation Centers in the Estremoz Anticline
The geological mapping of the marble exploration nuclei of the Anticlinal of Estremoz was carried out between 2003 and 2008 with a thematic focus on supporting the industrial sector and land planning. The maps produced for the 5 exploration centers, allow us to distinguish the main varieties of marbles, as well as their tectonic structuring that greatly conditions their exploitation.
Mapping of the Ornamental Limestone Resources from Maciço Calcário Estremenho
The disclosed geological maps allow us to know the spatial distribution of the limestone facies suitable for the production of ornamental limestones that have been in exploitation for about 3 decades and to evaluate the resources available in each of the producing areas.
Slope Map of Mainland Portugal (EU DEM)
This map aims to represent the terrain morphology, more specifically the slope between the different raster cells. The slope map uses a color gradient where lighter colors represent smoother slopes and darker colors steeper slopes. Slopes are represented in degrees and were obtained based on EU-DEM V1.1 (Copernicus Land product).
Aspect Map of Mainland Portugal (EU DEM)
Map that represents the morphology of the land, more specifically the direction of exposure of a given slope. The direction of a given slope has a direct influence on factors such as vegetation cover, humidity, speed at which snow and ice melt, construction, etc. This map was built based on EU-DEM V1.1 (Copernicus Land product).
Índices Mineralógicos de Portugal Continental
1st version of the mineralogical indeces dataset for Mainland Portugal. This dataset shows the predominance of different minerals with contrast that can support lithological discrimination, and aims to show spectral signatures compatible with different minerals, in a generic way, through band ratios in a single composite raster.
Multivariate Analysis of Sentinel-2 Sensors
Multivariate analysis on a mosaic of Sentinel-2 multispectral images, using the Minimum Noise Fraction (MNF) algorithm, with three bands containing the main information. The synthesis of mosaic on which the algorithm is applied results from images referring to the years 2016, 2019 and 2021, for the territory of mainland Portugal.

The Geological Map of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, scale of 1:400 000, is now available for download in the Open Data section. This map was edited in 2014 by LNEG, under a cooperation protocol involving the Instituto de Tropical Scientific Research, the General Directorate of Geology and Mines of Guinea-Bissau and Portuguese Cooperation.
Identification of areas not affected by land-use restriction, for the location of renewable power plants
LNEG developed work with a view to the future identification of “Go-To Areas” for the location of renewable energy production units in mainland Portugal. The work took place within the scope of an informal Working Group, coordinated by LNEG and involving the following entities: APA, DGEG, DGT, ICNF and DGPC.
Map Viewer Earth Observation
Explore in the new Earth Observation Viewer the multitemporal images captured by two optical satellites, Sentinel 2 (Copernicus) and Landsat (NASA). Use different algorithms to highlight specific characteristics, depending on the selected spectral range, from the point of view of geology, bathymetry, vegetation, agriculture, among others.

In the new 3D Viewer you can explore the Earth from different angles, zooming in to the appropriate scale for each location and incorporating the relief of the Earth's surface in the analysis. You can also superimpose some selected maps in the areas of Energy and Geology on the terrain.
Geological Map of the Northeast Sector of Bragança
The Geological Map of the Northeast Sector of Bragança, produced as part of the Doctoral thesis of Doctor Carlos Meireles in 2012, is now available for download, and which contains an adaptation of the surveys of the 1st edition of the Espinhosela and Deilão geological maps and new surveys.
International Geological Cartography
A new section called "International Geological Cartography" was created in the Open Data, which allows the download of varied international geological cartography, in which the Portuguese Geological Service was involved.
OffshorePlan - Planning the Instalation of Offshore Renewable Energy Systems in Portugal
Several maps of the Wind and Wave Atlas, developed within the scope of the OffShorePlan Project, were added for download, with the aim of promoting the implementation of offshore renewable energy systems on the Portuguese coast.
Portuguese Atlas of Sustainable Green H2
The Portuguese Atlas of Sustainable Green H2 is now available in the Map Viewer, a georeferenced information-based tool that complies with criteria defined in the construction of scenarios to assess the suitability of the location of green hydrogen production projects in the Portuguese mainland.
EXPLORA Project Maps
The EXPLORA project - Definition of new vectors of geological, geophysical and geochemical knowledge for the northern region of Neves-Corvo, aims to characterize the geological, geochemical and geophysical models of this important mining center in the Iberian Pyrite Belt, down to depths of about 1500 m.
GEO_FPI Project Maps
The maps of the GEO_FPI project – Transfrontier Observatory for the Geo-economic Enhancement of the Iberian Pyrite Belt project are now available for download. This project aimed to update all the geological information available on the referred region, having created a harmonized cartography of both sides of the Portuguese-Spanish border, unifying the available information.

Cross-border geological map of 1:200 000, in which the geological legend on both sides of the border was harmonized, with unified criteria between Spain and Portugal. Product resulting from the GEO-FPI project carried out in 2020 by IGME and LNEG.
